I have Exchange Server 2007 running on Windows Server 2008. I have been having some problems with the server rejecting emails and I wanted to turn on SMTP logging. I could not find SMTP in the Admin Services. When I opened Server Manager and selected Add Features, SMTP Server was not checked. My exchange server is working. We are able to send and receive emails. Two Questions: One, how can Exchange work without SMTP services. Two, how can I trace an email that is being sent from my exchange server to another email server?

Hello, Exchange 2007 has its own transport engine and does not require the Windows SMTP server to be installed. Exchange 2003 does use the Windows SMTP server.
