Domain rename after Exchange's setup /p
Hi all,
I am in very confused situation. I have run the Exchange 2007's "setup /p /on:" switch and while installing Exchange CAS/HUB, cancelled the installation on "Single label domain" warning. Now I am considering to continue with installing and possibly run into other SLD issues, or rename the domain. (I don't want to migrate to new AD because of number of client computers to migrate).
However, I've read that after issuing the setup /p, the domain rename will not work.
We have 2 DC's (Windows 2003 Server R2 x64), one forest, one domain. No Exchangeever installed. Just the Exchange 2007 's setup /p ran.
What will happen if I will go further with domain rename, using rendom.exe and then, if needed, re-run "setup /p"?
Will the rename domain process fail bringing me unusable Active Directory?
Will the setup /p after domain rename fail?
Will go everything ok and installation of Exchange roles fail?
Will installation go ok and Exchange have lot of unpredictable issues?
ADDED BY EDIT: Let's suppose that something will go wrong ... What If I will delete the Microsoft Exchange container from root domain partition ? It's the one preventing from successfull domain rename? Or it is in the schema (I know I can not roll back the schema update).
I am in doubt and can't continue, Thanks all for helping in advance
Regards,

Hi Martin,
I think, you dont get any problem since no Exchange server installed in your environment.
Schema extension I fine but I have doubt on configuration & domain Container -> Exchange organization containerwhich is created by prepareAD so as you said remove Exchange Organization container. Rename the domain & start from the beginning to install Exchange.
Nice discussionon this

Amit,
Youwere right.
I've renamed the SLD domain to full by adding .local suffix. Then renamed the domain controllers itself (added .local DNS suffix). Everything went ok. Then I deleted Exchange security groups, Configuration container from domain and configuration partition. Then ran the Exchange setup, both the domain preparation and install of role itself went OK. Some statements at the blogs or official technet pages make confusion.
Thank you for pointing
