Domain upgrade issues
Hi there, hoping someone may be able to help with this issue, as I've nearly gone bald from scratching my head! Situation:Installing first W2K8 domain controller in an existing W2K forest. There is another domain controller (W2K3 read only). DomainPreps have been done (/forestprep, gppprep) to the main controller.Installing AD on W2K8 server through DCPROMO goes well until the error message (which reads below) appears:
The operation failed because:
Active Directory Domain Services could not create the NTDS Settings object for this Active Directory Domain Controller CN=NTDS Settings,CN=BURWOOD,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=rspcavic,DC=org,DC=au on the remote AD DC burwood05.rspcavic.org.au. Ensure the provided network credentials have sufficient permissions.
"The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure."Of course I have tried to do this installation using the domain administrator account, and my account (both have full control on the domain). I have also tried DCPROMO advanced installation and selected only the main domain controller (rather than let Windows choose), all to no avail.I have been going through the tried and tested "Googling" (God bless it!), and have not found a solution yet.I will be monitoring this post (and others) and if I find something helpful, I will post the solution/outcome.Thanks for your insight,Regards,Turnz

Hi,
Please refer to How to troubleshoot intra-site replication failures- "The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure" error.
Besides, if you need more help, I recommend you to use Windows 2008 forum to get better help.

Thanks Xui, but as far as I can see I don't meet the criteria for single label DNS zones. I have moved my post as you suggested however, so thanks! New thread starts here:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/cd69e08b-a151-4214-ae7f-33431d29b8ebCheers,Turnz
