Hi

Hello

Emailing sent to DL which you are member of will always send you the email too (as you are already  a member)this is the way it works. However there is a work around to arrest this behaviour though it is not required since people will not be sending mails to a DL where they are already a member of in most of the scenarios with few exceptional cases like manager sending an announcement to the team DL which he is a member of.

To achieve the workaround , please refer to the following steps.
1. Login Outlook Web App with your account.
2. Click Options > Create an Inbox Rule at the top right corner under the username.
3. Click New, customize the rules to let the emails from you and to the distribution group that you are a member of be deleted automatically when receiving it. Here is an example of the screenshot:

Cheers !!!

Hi,

I suspect the "duplicate mail" in your posting means UserA received two messages which were writen the same content.

Generally, if one user is the member of one group, when this user sends message to this group, this user would also receive this message because he is also a recipient in this group. But if the user receive two messages, it is not a common behavior.

Please check whether the issue only happens to UserA. Please confirm if UserB who is also a member of Group1 encounters this issue. If the issue only happens to UserA, please restart UserA's Outlook with Outlook /cleanrules to have a try. If it doesn't work, please create a new Outlook profile for UserA and check whether the issue persists.

Hi ,

Just check the mailbox forward options, outlook client side rule and transport rule in exchange servers.

Apart from all of the above , please do a MESSAGE TRACKING and that will give you more clarity on this case.

Here is the scenario -

Hi Sathish,

Based on my knowledge i have given some points .

What does the message tracking says ? Does it show's deliver event for two times to the recipient?

What is the message ID of those messages ?Does both the messages have same message ID or different?

What is the CU in exchange 2013 ?

Does this issue is happening for all the Distribution lists? If so What is the group type ? Distribution or security type ?

Hi Nithyanandham,

Its the same message ID,

It is distribution group type

I dont think so it is related to Exchange 2013 CU's since we are getting this right from Exchange 2013 installed.

The current version is Exchange 2013 CU7

Thanks a lot for the pointers . But still im unable to find a solution on this.

Any further help is highly appreciated.

Hi Sathish,

Sorry for my delayed response.

Does this issue is happening only to the users where all are residing on a single database or else users are splitted across different databases ?

Instead of distribution group , have you created mail enabled security group and test the same ?

When the problem occurs , have you disable the mail enabled security group and again re enable it as mail enabled and check the results by sending the test mail ?

Have you moved anyone of the user to a new database and check the results by sending the test mail again to the group ?

If any member who is present in this DG1 sends an email to this group he gets 2 emails.

1 email...in inbox

If userB is in Group1 and send to Group1. then userB have duplicate mail but not for userA.

Santanu sorry yes its 1 mail in inbox.

My requirement is this

I have a Distribution group called Exchange Admins

There are totally 10 members in that group

If any user who is a member of that group sends an email to that group he also gets the email in his inbox

There is a way to stop happening this.

Dear Nithyanantham below are the results

Does this issue is happening only to the users where all are residing on a single database or else users are splitted across different databases ?

I have tested this by moving users to different DB's

Instead of distribution group , have you created mail enabled security group and test the same ?

They are not working in both types DG and Mail enabled SG

When the problem occurs , have you disable the mail enabled security group and again re enable it as mail enabled and check the results by sending the test mail ?

Its the same

Have you moved anyone of the user to a new database and check the results by sending the test mail again to the group ?

Already tried in the first question

I just want that email should not go to that sender who is already a member of the distribution group

Hi Sathish,

Based on my knowledge , we cannot achieve the above scenario because sender is already been as an member of distribution group so mail will get delivered to all the dist group members which includes sender too .

Nithyanandam you cannot say that we can't achieve this because in the link which you provided itself  clearly says and provides an tech-net article  that there is a work around for this by setting up filters.

April 1st, 2015 9:10am

Hi Sathish,

Thanks for your reply.

Alright , I hope filters can be applied only to the dynamic distribution groups and not for the normal distribution or security - mail enabled groups.

In our case we are discussing with normal distribution groups .At the same time the link what i have shared with you is dealing with filters on dynamic distribution group.

Note : Same time we cannot convert existing DG to DDG in exchange instead we need to create a new DDG with required members by using the filters. If i am wrong please correct me.

You are right . Got it now. I will need to create a new DDG in my case which is going to be a painful task .
