Dynamic Distribution Groups and custom filter based on AD attribute
Exchange 2007 SP1, within 1 forest with 4 child domains
We have been requested to create a DDG that will search for all mail users in the main 3 child domains where the msRTCSIP-UserEnabled attribute is set to TRUE (i.e. to create a global list of all OCS users, who are all in those 3 child domains). I
know I can create QBDL's in the Exchange 2003 days that could build based on this, but I'm not sure how to create a filter for this using the New-DynamicDistributionGroup cmdlet. Any ideas?

Hi,
msRTCSIP-UserEnabled is an OCS related attribute, so u cant creaet a filter based on it.
Here are the filterable properties available for RecipientFilter parmater:

Do Query-Based Distribution Lists work with Exchange 2007? I can create a QBDL per domain that does capture the users with this attribute set. I don't know if QBDLs are problematic in 2007 like the issues with mail-enabled groups that are not Universal.

Hi,
QBDL (Dynamic Distribution Groups) are fully supported with Exchange 2007/2010, but They can only contains attritbutes in RecipientFilter which are allowed as per link I posted in last post.
The allowed attributes are either generic Active Directory properties or properties which are introduced in AD by Exchange. So In my view u can't create a QBDL based on an attribute which is related to OCS.
As u said
"I can create a QBDL per domain that does capture the users with this attribute set."
Can u plz elaborate it, did u create QBDL in Exchange 2007? If so can u plz share with us how did u create it and what was the filter for this QBDL?

From what you, it appears that you cannot create a Dynamic DG in the Ex2007 management console. I am able to create a QBDL via ADUC that does return the users. However, I do not know what issues there are from using QBDLs since we aren't going the
normal route and creating them in the Exchange console.
QBDL filter is simply (objectCategory=user)(mailNickname=*)(msRTCSIP-UserEnabled=TRUE)

The only SIP related properties ( I guess also related to OCS) which are allowed in RecipientFilter of DDG (QBDL) are:
msRTCSIP-Line
RTCSIPPrimaryUserAddress
which u can see in the link provide in my first post.

The DDG works if I use (RTCSIPPrimaryUserAddress -ne $NULL) in the recipient filter. Thanks for your help!
