E-mail 2 field in outlook 2010

Hi,

When creating a contacts-view in outlook 2010 the "E-mail 2" field sometimes displays the full name of the user instead of the alternative e-mail address. I've checked and double checked using the display all fields option, but can't find any differences/errors. I sure could use some help solving this mystery.

System details:

Exchange 2010 server version 14.2.247.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 (English version)

Exchange 2010 client 14.0.6112.5000 (32-bits) (Dutch version)

Best regards.

Just to clarify one thing - are you including the <E-mail 2> field OR the <E-mail 2 Address> field?

The <E-mail 2> field is a root field made up of the 3 underlying fields that comprise it (E-mail 2 Address / E-mail 2 Type / E-mail 2 Display Name). You would (should) never include <E-mail 2> in a view on its own.

Questions related to Outlook/Exchange would be better posted in the following forum if the above does not resolve your issue

Hmmm since I'm using the Dutch version I have to guess that it's the "E-mail 2" field. When I browse through all available fields I can see that this field contains the e-mail address. The strange thing is that although all contacts have a valid e-mail address entered in that field, outlook sometimes decides to show the full name property instead when browsing through the list of contacts.

Another strange thing that I noticed just now is that the same goes for the "E-mail" field? Even though I'm 100% sure that this field only contains valid e-mail addresses, the list view also displays the full name of the user in the E-mail field for some of the users.

I'll repost the question in the suggested forum. Thank you!

Best regards.

My apologies - my original answer was incorrect and not applicable in your case. Was mistakenly thinking about the import/export field names. The <E-mail 2> field would be the one that "should" contain the email address info.

Also, in reference to "Outlook sometimes shows the full name" - that would depend on where exactly this is coming up. Outlook will show the Name in a variety of instances which is the first part of the Email DisplayName (i.e. selecting the contact from the AB in the To/CC/Bcc field would result in the "underlined" name appearing - the underline means that the contact is resolved)
