E2k3 Mailbox moved to E2k7 then deleted, how to reconnect it?
Last month I migrated our mail server to 2007. This week I had a user who's AD account was causing an issue with one of our financial apps. After exhausting all other leads, with the vendor and searching the web, we decided to create a new account for the user and reattach his mailbox. Here is where the real trouble started. The old mailbox points to the old 2k3 LegacyDN and while I can reattach the mailbox the user is not able to log into it. We see this event id: Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSExchangeIS Event Category: General Event ID: 9554 Date: 11/26/2009 Time: 3:53:01 PM User: N/A Computer: SLS20008 Description: Unable to update Mailbox SD in the DS. Outlook jsut keeps prompting for his user info & OWA spits out the following error: Request Url: https://owa.domain.org:443/owa/lang.owa User host address: 10.1.1.30 Exception Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.ConnectionFailedTransientException Exception message: Cannot open mailbox /o=slmhc/ou=first administrative group/cn=recipients/cn=dosmond. Here is the old DN: /O=SLMHC/OU=FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=olduser and the new DN: /O=SLMHC/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=newuser Any ideas on how I can get this mailbox back into service? Fixed the issue. Found this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb217975.aspx went to check on the check box in step 2, it was selected, so I tried deselecting it, applying the changes and finally re-selecting the allow inheritable check box. The user was able to log into the account now. What a pain in the ____ as I looked at that setting about an hour earlier, noticed it was selected and didn't change it thinking that it was correctly set already. All I can say is DOH!
