EAS
We have a user that need to have more than 10 device association for EAS. I found two throttle parameter that restricts EAS connection. EASMaxConcurrency The EASMaxConcurrency parameter specifies how many concurrent connections a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync user can have against a server running Exchange 2010 at one time. A connection is held from the moment a request is received until a response is sent in its entirety to the requestor. If users attempt to make more concurrent requests than their policy allows, the new connection attempt fails. However, the existing connections remain valid. The EASMaxConcurrency parameter has a valid range from 0 through 2147483647 inclusive. The default value is 10. To indicate that the number of concurrent connections should be unthrottled (no limit), this value should be set to $null. EASMaxDevices The EASMaxDevices parameter specifies a limit to the number of Exchange ActiveSync partnerships that a user can have at one time. By default, each user can create 10 Exchange ActiveSync partnerships with their Exchange account. After users exceed the limit, they must delete one of their existing partnerships before they can create any more new partnerships. An e-mail error message describing the limitation is sent to the user when the limit is exceeded. Additionally, an event is logged in the Application log when a user exceeds the limit. Question: If EASMAxDevices remains as default (i.e 10 partnerships), what is the purpose of increasing EASMaxConcurrency to 50? Kelvin Teang

That would not serve any purpose unless each device was making multiple connections at once. The inverse would make more sense, setting EASMaxDevices to 50 and then setting EASMaxConcurrency to 20 or something like that. Allowing a user to have more than 10 EAS partnerships, but no more than 20 concurrent connections.

We want to define a custom throttle policy for all these variations. E.g Created: "CustomThrottlePolicy" - OWAMaxconcurrency 30 - EASMaxConcurrency 20 - EASMaxDevice 20 - RCAMaxConcurrency 100 Is there any equivalent of EASMAxDevice for RCA and OWA? Do we need to reboot the CAS server for the new policy to take effect?Kelvin Teang

If you haven't seen it, here is the TechNet page on throttling policies... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297964.aspx RCA and OWA dont deal with devices so, no there are not MaxDevice options for RCA and OWA.... And you do not need to reboot, these changes usually take effect fairly quickly. the RCA and OWA settings have no bearing on devices that use EAS. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Event 2915 I have created a test policy to overcome event 2915. However, event 2915 still appear. Created: Testthrottlingpolicy - OWAMaxconcurrency 30 - EASMaxConcurrency 50 - RCAMaxConcurrency 100 Found most of them has delegation or using MAC.Kelvin Teang

Hi Kelvin, Firstly, this article would help us to understand the knowledge about the throttling: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297964.aspx When using the mobile devices , such as iphone, ipad and other third party devices to sync with exchange, the devices always create many connection with exchange server, and always go over the budget. We could set the budget as large value, but it is not suggested. Or, you could set it for special user account. Regards!Gavin TechNet Community Support
