ESMTP Answering on port 110????
We have a strange issue with our 2007 SP1 Rollup 8 box... We support both SMTP and POP3. For whatever reason, many times when we try telnet mail 110 we're greeted with the ESMTP banner. When this is happening POP3 mail does not function. It takes a number of service restarts between the POP3 service and Exchange Transport service to get POP3 to properly answer on port 110. Has anyone else ever run into this?

That is strange. What antivirus/spam software do you have on this box?you can/should also enable protocol logging to see if its just a banner weirdness or if the service itself IS actually answering on the incorrect port.How to Enable Protocol Logging for POP3 and IMAP4How to Configure Protocol Logging(smtp)
