ESM error ID no: c1030af0
From the Exchange System Manager: "The operation failed due to an invalic format in the HTTP request verify that the host header is correct for the virtual server ID no: c1030af0" This happens when I try to edit properties of Calendar and other folders in Exchange. I've found documentation about ensuring that: "This error can occur if you have multiple IP addresses bound to the network card on the Exchange server and you have the default Web site bound to the secondary IP address. An invalid host header or IP address has been set for the default Web site Incorrect IP addresses or host header is set on the cluster virtual server." But for the life of me I cannot find where to edit these settings that are vaguely referred to. I've looked in IIS manager but cannot find EXACTLY where to look. Trying to "Browse" these folders from ESM results in an error that the page has a "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" Searching for this error in the forums has resulted in two references to this error. One was never answered and the other refers to moving exchange from an old to a new server. Any help is greatly appreciated, since I have people who need write permission to certain public calendars. Thanks, Paul

Version information would be of assistance here. The host header and IP address information is set on the properties of the web site in IIS manager. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

For some reason I thought I was already in an Exch2003 forum, ver 6.5 (build 7638.2: SP2) I was able to find the IP and Header information before posting, but had no idea what Exactly should be there, as others may have been working without my knowledge. For the default website the IP is set to (All Unassigned) Under Advanced there is a Default setting of mail.domain.org and a local IP of 192.168.1.222 (which is the address of the box that exchange is using) and it is set to exchange.domain.local {This information is factually correct so that I assume it should be there). The HTTP header has two custom headers that read MicrosoftOfficeWebServer:5.0_Pub and X-Powered-By:ASP.NET Neither of these I remember setting, but I'm not familiar enough to know what should be there. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Paul

This is a general forum. Not specific to any version. The only version specific forums are for Exchange 2010 - yet Exchange 2010 questions end up elsewhere. You should have NO host headers configured. The exchange.domain.local entry should not be there and therefore should be removed. That isn't standard configuration and is the cause of your problem. Remove it, then run iisreset from a command prompt. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

I'm pretty sure that the local IP setting is in place to facilitate the use of OWA for Macs to use for their Entourage(?) mail client internally, if memory serves me correctly Entourage didn't work until this entry was put into place. It is more important for these clients to access their mail than it is for me to administer the calendar. However, the setting does seem trivial to replace if it allow me access for a few minutes I guess I could easily replace it. Do the custom HTTP headers need to be removed as well? Thanks, Paul

The custom http headers are unrelated and can be left in place. I have never heard of this setting being required for Entourage before. Either way, that setting is the cause of your problem and needs to be removed. If that causes the Mac clients to stop working then you will need to find another solution for them, because the current configuration is not valid for Exchange 2003. The local IP setting pointing to exchange.domain.local was removed and ISS was restarted. This seemed to have no impact on clients MAC or otherwise. However I still get the same c1030af0 error when trying to edit calendars etc.

Was the IP address on the web site set to a specific address or all unassigned? It should be the latter. Do ensure that you run iisreset after making any changes, and then restart the Exchange management console. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

The Default Web Site Properties displays all unassigned when opened and the apply button is grey. When clicking the drop down box there is still the option to select the local IP address and apply it, I see no way to remove the ip selection from the drop-down box. I did run iisreset and the command prompt and it did restart successfully. I have exited out of and back into the EMC. Yet the error persists. I haven't restarted all exchange services, but I can if needed. Paul

As long as it is set to all unassigned, that is all that should be required. Hopefully the server was rebooted yesterday or today, for updates to be installed. Does the problem continue after that reboot? Also ensure that any DNS servers in the network configuration are ONLY AD DNS servers. No external DNS servers should be configured anywhere.
