EXCHANGE 2013 CU7 RECOVERY

Hello,

I have run a full Server Backup on my Lab Server, but when I Recover (selecting Applications -> Exchange) the Recovery process succeeds. However the Mailbox items are not recovered. I have deleted Distribution Groups and Public Folders, but Windows Backup does not recover these items.

Thanks

Hi Farook,

Thank you for your question.

By my understand, if we want to recover DG and PF, we should recovery the AD database by the following link:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc961934.aspx

If we want to recovery the mailbox items, we could recover the Exchange mailbox database from your backup.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Hello Jim,

Windows Server Backup tool is quite robust and can accomplish my requirement. I have Recovered Exchange before using this tool. What could be the issue? Could it be CU7?

Thanks

Hi Farook,

Because the information of DG and PF was stored in AD database, so we could recover it from AD database, if we dont want to recovery AD database, we could recovery DG and PF in AD, we could post this case to Window server for help that how to find the item which was deleted.

We could recovery the mailbox items from Exchange database backup after we recovery Exchange server.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Jim

Jim,

Basically I would like to know if (Windows Backup) Recovery is only for restoring the Mailbox Database.

Thanks

Hi Farook,

Window backup could also use VSS functionality that is built into application like SQL instead of mailbox. But Exchange integrate AD. some configure information were stored in AD.(for example PF or DG). So if we want to restore it, we just restore AD database(Notice: this step could be done more carefully). The database will be stored in Exchange server local, so we could restore it by backup.

We could refer to the following link:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770266(v=ws.10).aspx

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
