EXchange Autodiscovery Implementation
Hi, i AM Trying to implenment the autodiscovery and active sync feature in our Exchange Environment 2007 We have one CAS server and one Exchange server (Transport server) I have executed all the necessary commands succesfully Set-OWAVirtualDirectory Identity 2010CASHUB02\OWA (default web site) -ExternalURL https://webmail.exchange14.nl/OWA Set-OABVirtualDirectory Identity 2010CASHUB02\OAB (default web site) -ExternalURL https://webmail.exchange14.nl/OAB Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory Identity 2010CASUB02\EWS (default web site) -ExternalURL https://webmail.exchange14.nl/ews/exchange.asmx Set-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory Identity 2010CASHUB02\Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync (default web site) -ExternalURL https://webmail.exchange14.nl/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync This setting is only valid for Exchange Server 2010: Set-ECPVirtualDirectory Identity 2010CASHUB02\ECP (default web site) -ExternalURL https://webmail.exchange14.nl/ECP In the Exhange forom i have read that The last step is to configure the external DNS. Both the webmail hostname as well as the Autodiscover hostname need to point to the external facing Client Access Server. but our CAS server is not the transport server when we point the external DNS to CAS does all the mails going to fail which are coming to CAS I am confused a lot Please help me Thanks in Advance regards Sabarish

What is the problem/issue you are encountering? Can't you send/receive email message from Outlook internally or can't you sync your mobile? Please run Online test here: https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ Thanks, Fiona Liao TechNet Community Support

Hi Fiona, External DNS is not yet configured to complete the autodiscovery but i am afraid if change the webmail hostname as well as the Autodiscover hostname to point to the external facing Client Access Server. Or I have not completely understand this point from exchange forum The last step is to configure the external DNS. Both the webmail hostname as well as the Autodiscover hostname need to point to the external facing Client Access Server. ========================================================= Wheteher this broke our incoming mails because our Transport server is MYEXG01 and CAS server is MYOWA01 if i point the external dns to MYOWA01 Whether it will affect all incoming mails? Reg the Exchange connectivity test It is failing in the DNS level and our OWA link (owa.projectxnet.com) is different domain (@thecramgroup.com) Kindly Advice Regards Sabarish

Ok you mentioned you have 1 Exchange server that has all roles particular CAS and HT. However you also say that "but our CAS server is not the transport server when we point the external DNS to CAS does all the mails going to fail which are coming to CAS " Please confirm which is the case. Now if you mean that you are using an SMTP gateway which sends to your Exchange that is fine. What is external DNS webmail pointing to now? Hi, We have one exchange server - myexg01 and we have cas server myowa01. The roles like transport, moilboxstore are taken care by myexg01. and CAS Roles are taken care by myowa01 At the moment our external DNS is pointing to the mxlogic thecramgroup.com.inbound10.mxlogic.net for antispam protection when email hits the public due to the NAT policy the firewall send to exchange server(myexg01) if at all we change the NAT policy to Myowa01 will the emails coming will fail since it cannot find the Exchange server (Myexg01)

Yes that's correct emails will not come in because myowa01 does not have the HT role, so you you leave it as is for transport port 25 going to myexg01. For autodiscover does your certificate contain autodiscover.company.com in addition to webmail.exchang314.nl? If so all you need to do is create a DNS A record called autodiscover.yourdomain.com that points to the external IP of your CAS. If you don't have autodiscover.company.com on you cert than you will have to do the redirect method. A new feature is available that enables Outlook 2007 to use DNS Service Location (SRV) records to locate the Exchange Autodiscover service http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940881James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
