Echange pulling email from pop3, but not sending to Outook.
I just installed SBS 2003 and configure a hand full of clients. I set up
Exchange so that it will go out to the internet and pull pop3 email from a
server. That email address is associated to a user account. The exchange
server is pulling email from the pop3 server, but I am not able to retrieve
it in outlook. When I log into the user account on the client Outlook says
that it is currently connected to the exchange server and that all folders
are up to date. Even if I hit send and receive it doesn't show the messages.
When I initially set up outlook I did import some old messages and those are
showing up, but the new have never come into the inbox. I don't even have
the default welcome message that usually shows up after setting up a new
account. If I look in Exchange, it shows that there are over 1200 items in
the users box, but on Outlook it only shows 300 (the ones I imported). I am
not sure if the 1200 includeds all calander atimes as well. A few questions
I had are:
1. Is it possible to view the messages directly in exchange to see if the
new messages are in the users inbox?
2. How can I see if the messages are being routed to a different account?
They are being pulled from the pop3 server every time Exchange syncs, but I
can't confirm where they are going.
3. When I originally configured SBS, I didn't enter an internet domain name
during the mail setup because I don't directly host a web site on my network.
The email address after the initial setup showed up in outlook as
"user.domain.local". I went into the properties of the user on the server
and changed the SMTP email address from "user.domain.local" to the actual
email address so that when messages are sent they have the correct address.
Outlook now reflects this change, but would this have an impact on the inbox
since I changed this in the properties manually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have messages coming into the
server that I can't retrieve.
Thanks,
Nick

I'm not sure that this is directly related to POP3. The more I look at it, the more I think this may be just a general email account issue. I am still curious about my previous questions.
