Edge Server version incorrect after E2K7 SP2 install
I just completed the install of SP2 in my environment, and when checking the version of the Edge server ON the edge server, is shows 8.2 as it should. However, checking the version in EMC and EMS from the CAS server, it still shows 8.1. I have performed an EdgeSync, and there has been no change. As all aspects of Exchange are working correctly, this isn't that big of a deal, but it is one detail that I would like to correct.Thoughts?Richard

Any thing on set up log for the edge server, indicating the SP2 installation failure? Any thing on events log?Raj

Hi Richard, Would you please let me know whether you have recreated Edge Subscription on the Edge Server and Hub Server after installing Service Pack 2? In addition, would you please let me know how you check the Edge Server Version by using EMC and EMS? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mike Shen TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

No, I did not recreate the Edge Subscription. I did not see that as a step in any of the docs. Is that necessary? In EMS, get-exchangeserver shows version 8.2. In EMC, Edge Transport lists the version.Richard

Hi Richard, Please understand when you using EMC or get-exchangeserver to check Exchange Version. It actually gather information from AD or ADAM. When Hub Server perform Edgesync, it write AD changes into ADAM database.Nevertheless, it does not write ADAM changes to AD. Therefore, when you get-exchangeserver on Hub or CAS server, it still shows 8.1. In order to update the Edge server object on AD, you need to create a new edge subscription file on edge which will include current Edge Server version. When you import the edgesync file on Hub, a new Edge Server object will be created with current version. Thanks,Mike

Is it documented that the edge subscription needs to be re-created and I just missed it? Or is that just a knowledge thing that one should just assume? It makes total sense, and all is good, I just wonder if I missed it because I was blind, or if it wasn't there at all causing others to be confused as well?Richard

Hi, According to Edgesync whitepaper, it has description below:As noted earlier in this white paper, the MicrosoftExchange EdgeSync service is the data synchronization service that periodically replicates configuration data from ActiveDirectory to a subscribed Edge Transport server. The MicrosoftExchange EdgeSync service runs on all Hub Transport serversunder the context of the Local Service account. Data is pushed from ActiveDirectory by the Hub Transport server inside the organization to the Edge Transport server in the perimeter network. This means that the Hub Transport server always initiates the synchronization session and thatthe MicrosoftExchange EdgeSync service performs only one-way synchronization from ActiveDirectory to ADAM. Data from ADAM is never synchronized to ActiveDirectory. If the edgesync works well currerntly, I think that you do not need to recreate edgesync currently. Thanks,Mike
