You should not put ADSI Edit into the hand of end users. This is low-level editor for Active Directory. With Exchange 5.5 and 2000, there was a quite handy tools around,GALmod32, that would do the job. However, it doesn't seems to support Exchange 2007. The MS KB is here:

Your best choice might be to write an in-house application, for instance with VBScript using the ADSI interface or look for athird-party such as:

Just came across this one in my search for a download of GALmod32. Check out these tools and see if they are updated for Exchange 2007:

Thanks a lot Jon.no i was not talking about giving users this tool of course i would not do such a blunder, i was just thinking of modification from that tool like giving users on some attribute so that users can modify their address book detailsI'll visit the sites prescribed by you but there should be some easier way around? Any ideas why they removed such a useful utility from e2k7?

If you are planning to go for Exchange 2010 then it has in-built facility to have self-help by end user and update their information in Exchange Control Panel...
OWA- Exchange Control Panel (ECP)-Part2-features

Otherwise some third-party tool would do it...
