Editing the MasterServer in ADSIEdit
To make a long story short, we had an issue with the Exchange server during an SP upgrade. Called into Microsoft and their fix was to stand up a new Exchange server and restore data to this new one (ugh). We ultimately went a different route
and restored the server via DPM bare metal restore. All is well now.
One nagging thing though is that he had us going into ADSIEdit and modifying the msExchMasterServerOrAvailabilityGroup value for our databases to change them to the new server. After we scrapped his original idea, I thought I had gotten all the ADSIEdit
values changed back to what they were, but one of our DBs still has the wrong msExchMasterServerOrAvailabilityGroup name. The database is mounted and working successfully though.
I want to change it to the correct value, and figured I at least have to dismount the database, change the ADSIEdit value, and remount.... BUT, another admin wiped out the temporary server before it was properly decommissioned from the Exchange environment.
So when I try to dismount the database, it throws an error message that it can't contact that server. Fantastic.
So, I'm basically wondering now, is there a different way to change this msExchMasterServerOrAvailabilityGroup value? I'd like to remove this orphaned Exchange server from our environment, but I'm certain that I won't be able to until this value
is corrected.
Thanks!
