Email Database Move Plan question
We are planning on moving our exchange databases from an external storage source to our SAN.Our plan proposed plan is the following: 1. Create a good backup of all of the Exchange databases. 2. Shut down all Exchange related services on the servers in the Exchange Cluster, taking both nodes inour cluster offline. 3. Copy the entire contents of the existingdisk partitions set up as Cluster disk resources for DB storage to newly created partitions. 4. Swap the drive letter designations between the old and new partitions. 5. Bring the services back up.Are there reasons this will not work?Any assistance is appreciated.

your plan is looking goodif you copy the database folder to new storage you may not need to check permissions but before mounting exchange databeses check folder permissions.my suggestion is system user must have full control right for database folderMCSE,CCNA,VCP,APP

You should first stop the Clustered Mailbox Server in CCR when you are planning to shutdown both nodes, refer below instruction on how to do it... Thank you very much for the responses. It is an Exchange 2003 environment so I do not believe the CCR issues will apply. If we have any issues Permissions will be the first place I look though we do plan to copy the exact permissions as they currently exist from the old paritions to the new partitions. Thanks again, we are attempting this over the weekend during a 5 hour maintenance window so wish us luck :0)

Kewl, just to add some of the points... Dismount all databases in step 1b and make sure that it is in clean shutdown (with eseutil /mh databasepath) state to be safer side and then stop the services with passive node... Default NTFS permission explained in below article... How to move Exchange databases and logs in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821915 And yes, best of luck for this... I am sure it will be successful... :)Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
