Hi all, This is myfirst question on the TechNet so please be gentle! I have a simple question about a distribution group I have set up. I have set up a group in Exchange 2007 called qadministrators that I have added a group with people in. When I try and send an email to one of the addresses in the Email tab I get this error: Final-Recipient: rfc822;email@address.hereAction: failedStatus: 5.7.1X-Display-Name: qadministrators Why could this be? (I am clearly doing something silly here!) Thanks in advance, Steve

Steve, The non-delivery error code 5.7.1 is documented on computerperformance.co.uk as: Permissions problem. For some reason the sender is not allowed to email this account. Perhaps an anonymous user is trying to send mail to a distribution list.Check SMTP Virtual Server Access Tab. Try checking this box: Allow computers which successfully authenticate to relay User may have a manually created email address that does not match a System Policy. Are you attempting to 'test' by sending to the SMTP address from within Exchange or from an external host? If the latter it could be related to permission (not) allowing unauthenticated users access to send to the group. If internal, then it could be something else permissions related.

Thank you for your reply Jeff. I am trying to email from a google account so internal permissions shouldn't be a problem. That response is from my google mail account.

Ok, if only authenticated users are allowed to send to the distribution list, then email sent to the group from outside your organziation will be denied. This should help: http://mymcp.blogspot.com/2007/07/microsoft-exchange-2007-distribution.html To change this setting open up the "Exchange System Console" and go to the Recipient Configuration, Distribution Group. Then right click on the distribution group you wish to edit and choose properties. Next click the "Mail Flow Settings" tab and select the "Message Delivery Restrictions" and then hit the "Properites" button. On the "Message Delivery Restrictions" screen uncheck the "Require that all senders are authenticated" option and you will be all set.To do all of the above from the "Exchange Management Shell" you can use the one-liner below.Set-DistributionGroup -identity "DisplayNameOfDistributionGroup" -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $FalseIt's really that easy.
