Email attachment protected view

Hello,

I am running Office 365 Exchange Online and Office 2013 subscriptions on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit box.

Even though protected view is disabled in Word, DOCX email attachments still open in a protected view instead of an edit view.  (see attached pics)

Actions taken so far:

  • Removed the Office 2013 install using the removal tool from KB2739501
  • Downloaded & installed Office 2013 from my Office 365 portal
  • Can confirm the removal & reinstall did NOT re-enable protected view in Word.  I was thinking it would be enabled by default and I would have to disable it again.
  • Still no change as DOCX email attachments still open in a protected view in Word instead of an edit view

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Sorry, this was mistakenly labeled as a 'protected view' issue instead of 'reading view'.

Issue has been resolved by disabling 'reading view' for attachments under Word - Options.

Hi,

Does this only happen to Word file? What about other Office application files? Also, is this a home or corporate network?

As far as I know, this setting does not apply if File Block Settings force the file to open in Protected View, or if a file fails Office File Validation.

The File Block Settings should not be a problem here as I can see from your screenshot, Word file type is not blocked. Do you happen to have any Office File Validation settings created in your network? By default, files that fail Office File Validation are opened in Protected View.

Here is the reference you might need: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee857087(v=office.15).aspx

Hi Ethan,

Please read my last post.  It was a 'reading view' issue.

Thanks for you reply.

Oh, seems I kept this thread open for a long period of time without a refresh, I didn't see your reply when I post my comment.

Good to see your problem has been resolved.
