Email attachments sometimes dont show in Outlook 2007 when connected to a Exchange 2010 mailbox
We've set up a new Exchange 2010 system (no previous Exchange setup was on the domain previously) last Christmas and mainly everything is running nicely but we have the following issue that we are a bit puzzled by. Some users using Outlook 2007 in conjunction with a Exchange 2010 cached mailbox on their computer sometimes recieve emails (from our old linux based email server) that has attachments, but they dont display anywhere within the email etc, but the email does have a paper clip by it and if you log into the mailbox via OWA, you'll be able to see the attachment in a bar at the top of the email as per usual. It appears to only be some emails that are recieved from the old system but not had enough results to fully know if this is the case or not yet. The issue sounds exactly like the Exchange 2007 issue shown here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/961940?p=1 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954684 We have, on the off chance, tried the latter KB but it didnt provide any results - the Set-OrganizationConfig powershell cmdlet didnt have the parameter mentioned, and adding the older method of adding the <add key="TreatInlineDispositionAsAttachment" value="true" /> entry to the config file made no difference too. Wondering if this is a known issue or not as we convert more people to Exchange, its going to be more and more of a issue (yes, we know its still accessible if you go through OWA but our users aren't always keen to have to try awkward (to them) workaround when it should just work or be configurable in the first place. Any help with this would be welcome. Jason. EDIT: Just to mention it but the Exchange users only have Outlook 2007 with SP2 installed, and the Exchange Servers are running Rollup Package 2 (the issue has been there since RTM for us btw).

The attachment is the inline attachment, isn’t it? Quote: “It appears to only be some emails that are received from the old system” Do you mean the symptom only happen when the messages are sent from Linux mail server? Could the issue be reproduced among the exchange users? Please verify the message format: · What’s the message format the sender is used to send the problematic message? · What’s the message format of delivered problematic message on the receiver’s side? Please ensure that the message format as RTF on both sender and receiver’s sides, and then try to reproduce the issue again “If you send to Microsoft Exchange Server recipients in an organization, attachments are not displayed inline if you send in a format other than Outlook Rich Text format” -----------Refer to <Attachments that are sent in the body of an e-mail message do not appear in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003>James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
