Email setup
Hi
We are using Server 2003 R2.
I've created 2 functional outlook mailboxes, one for incoming mail and one for outgoing. How would I set them up to where a copy of all emails are automatically send to these mailboxes as well. We would like to silently monitor all emails coming and going
from the network.

Hello,
To monitor all e-mails by receiving a copy of other user's mailbox you would have to forward a copy to recipient on each user's mailbox to yourself. This is inefficient because it creates duplicate messages in the IS and takes up unnecessary space.
The most effective way to
grant yourself full access to user's mailbox and use
Outlook to preview their mailbox.

I def agree. The reason I ask this is that it was already set up this way (before my time here at this company, and the guy who created this is no longer with the company) and I would like to know how it was set up. I believe that besides monitoring,
users tend to "lose" emails and we use this "recover" them as well. I am currently looking into a better solution, but will need to know how this was configured in the first place, just in case we run into problems and will need to re-create this as a temp
solution.

It's possible that they either set up e-mail to be forwarded to a mailbox or they created a distribution group where several members of the group received the same e-mail.Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL

I didnt find a distribution group like that. I'm fairly new to the exchange world (was kinda thrown into it). I've looked everywhere on the exchange server that would show any type of config on how all emails would be forwarded as well... and got nothing.
Any help would be great!

That's not nearly as important as the release of Exchange. I'm
guessing you're only running Exchange 2007.

Create journaling rules. I don't think you'd want to separate the
"sent" and "received" messages, though. Just one mailbox to receive
all journaled messages would do it.
The problem with making copies of messages without jurnaling is that
Bcc recipients are a PITA, and messages sent to DLs wouldn't record
who actually was a recipient of the message (DL membership changes
over time). Dynamic DLs are another problem, also solved by
journaling.

Since these mailboxes were alrady created, I looked into their properties and Journaling is not enabled. So I'm not sure what was did.

You wouldn't look at the mailboxes. Look at the "Journal Rules" in the
HT server container in the organization configuration.
