Emails not being recieved (hop count exceeded)
One of the users in my organization can't receive emails from one specific address, he can receive emails from any one else just not one specific address. The sender gets this NDR report sent to them: (italicized entires are email address I removed to protect privacy) From: their system admin [mailto:their system admin ] Sent: Wednesday, November 25, 2009 8:53 AM To: sender Subject: Mail could not be delivered ****** Message from InterScan Messaging Security Suite ****** Sent <<< . Received >>> 552 smtp.their domain : your "received:" header counts of 16 exceeds maximum setting 15 Unable to deliver message to <person in my organization >. ************************ End of message ********************** The hop count on my server is set to 50, but their IT people insist that the problem is on my end. I'm at a loss here. I check the spam filters and other email logs and there is no record of the email even entering my organization. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,This is not issue with your exchange server, hop count should be increase at sender SMTP server. This can be done by setting a maximum hop count for the SMTP virtual server. In Exchange2000 Server, the default hop count is 15. In Exchange Server2003, the default is 30. A value of 30 for both Exchange2000 Server and Exchange Server2003 SMTP virtual servers is recommendedSee below link how can set hop count in exchange 2003/2000 SMTP server.SMTP message failure warning - BadMail messages hop count thresholdhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997082.aspx

Ok. Thanks, I'll contact their IT people again and see if we can get the problem fixed. Just to clarify the problem isn't on my end?
