Error MSExchangeFBPublish EV. ID 8207
Hi people, Tipical Error MSExchangeFBPublishevent ID 8207. Migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. The steps were:- Install a new Exchange 2007 (Hub transport, CA, Mailbox). Create the conector to Internet in the 2007, everythings ok.- Migrate the OAB.- Migrate the both recipients Update Services.- Migrate the mailboxes. -Replicate the public folders to the new Exchange 2007.-Delete (after weeks) the exchange 2003 from the replicas.-Create a new Exchange 2007 (edge transport).-Create a subscription. ok.-Delete the Exchange2003<exchange2007 connector.-We shutdown Exchange 2003 for a week, everything was ok, no problems with public folders. But currently, we have the above error in event every 50 minutes, about Error updating public folder with free/busy information on virtual machine XXXXXXX. The error number is 0x8004010f.We have clients with outlook 2003 and outlook2007 (clients could use his calendars, etc...). Autodiscover (I think...) its working ok.In the Exchange 2003, there areNOT public folders, but there are Public Folder Instances (Whats the difference??), and there ARE users making LOGON in the logon folder, even they have all the mailbox migrate to the Exchange 2007.When I tried to delete the public folder STORE in the Exchange 2003, I cant because IT CONTAINS PUBLIC REPLICAS. I check but i havent the exchange2003 server configure as Replicas...Any idea to...1- Configure the error 8207 of event viewr2- Delete the Public folder store to eliminate the Exchange 2003 from the organization.thanks in advanced

How did you replicate the public folders to new Exchange 2007? You need to move all public folders (including system folders which contains free/busy, information for users, OAB, Forms etc... which should be showing in public folder instance) from Exchange 2003 to 2007 otherwise you may get error 8207 error... Since you have old server, you can follow below article to remove last Exchange 2003 server from Organization, if you have removed the routing group connector then recreate it and move the all public folder including system folders and delete PF store as per below guide... How to Remove the Last Legacy Exchange Server from an Organization http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspx Removing The Last Exchange 2003 Server From Exchange 2007 (Part 1) http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/removing-last-exchange-2003-server-exchange-2007-part1.html Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

But if I shutdown the exchange2003 i havent got any problem....why???
June 2nd, 2009 12:44pm

That basically creates problem while retrieving free/busy information for outlook 2003 users since outlook 2003 uses PF for free/busy information. Also you said that you replicated public folder to Exchange 2007 server, if you have replicated free/busy system folders then end user with outlook 2003 doesn't get any problem in while getting free/busy info in outlook but you can verify again... Check below article and follow the procedure forscenario2 if you can't bring up Exchange 2003 server to move PFs... Users who use Outlook 2003 cannot publish their free/busy data in Exchange Server 2007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945602 Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Replicas : {Public Folder Store (SERVER)} This is the culprit, add Exchange 2007 server public folder database replica here with Exchange 2007 Public Folder management console available in Tools of EMC and remove Exchange 2003 database. Or with below cmdlet as per Scenario w resolution available in KB945602... set-publicfolder -Identity "\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY\EX:/o=DOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group" -replicas "2007servername\Storage Group Name\Public Folder Database"Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

I dont understand...because SERVER is our Exchange2007 server...here there will be the exchange2003 and exchange2007 servers? before I can remove the exchange2003???thanks
June 2nd, 2009 5:07pm

In replicalist it should show Exchange 2007 Public Folder Database store before you remove Exchange 2003 (in short all public folder and system folders should be moved to Exchange 2007 public folder database and should show all folderswith a replica of Exchange 2007 PF database only)."Public Folder Store (SERVER)" looks the name of Exchange 2003 Public Folder as per naming standard becuase when a public folder database created on Exchange 2007, it has naming format like "Public Folder Database""EX:/o=DOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group" free busy folder shows only Exchange 2003 database in replica where it should have only Exchange 2007 public folder database name.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Excellent.... :) Yes, if you have other steps performed as per the link I gave earlier to remove last legacy Exchange server from the environment, you can delete public store with ADSIedit and uninstall exchange... But I would make sure by running below cmdlets that none of PF or system folders have 2003, and all have 2007 database mentioned in replica otherwise follow the same steps which we performed... ;) get-publicfolder -Identity "\" -Recurse |fl name, replicas get-publicfolder -Identity "\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\" -Recurse |fl name, replicas Note: Below system folders don't have replicas as per their default behaviour.... That shows normal public folders have replicated or moved but not "non_ipm_subtree"... :) Is there any chances to bring up old server, create routing group back and replicate the PFs. If not, you can go for below method... PFDavAdmin requires .net framework 1.1, which you can install on any of the workstation and run it on workstation. PFDAVADMIN, Exchange 2007, and the v1.1 .NET Framework http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com/2008/01/pfdavadmin-exchange-2007-and-v11-net.html However best bet is to use built-in scripts to manage PF replicas. You can useReplaceReplicaOnPFRecursive.ps1 script to replace replica... CD "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts" ./ReplaceReplicaOnPFRecursive.ps1 -Server Exchange2007Name -TopPublicFolder \NON_IPM_SUBTREE\ -ServerToRemove Exchange2003Name -ServerToAdd Exchange2007Name Note: You may get error for some of the system folders as I mentioned earlier when you run this cmdlet... Here I have some users, which his mailboxes were migrated to the exchange 2007 sucesfully. WHY????....I have shutdowned the exchange2003 , and everithing was ok, nobody calls with any error or problem...why are this users here????....its because I have got the public folder instance full???...any idea??...should I eliminate the server???

Ok, nobody was logued.I started the last steps, but I before finally removed Exchange 2003 from control panel, in ADSIEDIT I can see that public folder hierarchy belongs to First Administrative Group from Exchange2003, and in my Group from exchange 2007 i havent got any public folder hierarchy . I tried to moved it with adsiedit, but i have an error:"A system flag has been set on the object and does not allow the object to be moved or renamed" Should I remove the exchange 2003 and then automatically the exchange2007 assumes the public folder hierarchy ???....thanks in advanced

You don't have to move it to Exchange 2007 Admin group, by default it is placed in First Admin Group. Don't remove First Admin Group or PF Hierarchy during migration.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Ok, But I forgot to do the step: On your Exchange2003 or Exchange2000 server, perform the following steps to move the public folder hierarchy from the Exchange2003 or Exchange2000 administrative group to the Exchange2007 administrative group: In Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, right-click Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT), select New, and then select Public Folders Container. Expand the Exchange2003 or Exchange2000 administrative group that contains the public folder tree, expand Folders, and then drag Public Folders to Folders under the Exchange2007 administrative group. As I said, everything its ok in the exchange 2007, and no conectors are and nothing...its ok to removed it? (so the question about the hierarchy...)

Ah ok, got it... ~ Do you have any workstation where you have Exchange 2003 Management Tools installed? You can do from there also without bringing Exchange 2003 server up... ~ Second option, create a Folder Hierarchy container in Exchange 2007 Admin group and then right click on CN=Public Folder in 2003 admin group and click move give path of new container, referFolder hierarchies missing section inbelow article for further help while playing in ADSIEdit.msc... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc411329.aspxAmit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Well....finally...with the last issues...(hope...).When I tried to use PFAdmin (in a workstation with net framework 1.1, and user with enought permissions), ive got the error:"An error occurred while trying to establish a connection to theexchange server. Be sure that port 443 (for SSL) or port 80 (for non-SSL) can be reached. If you are connecting to public folders, be surethat the public folder store is mounted.Exception : Failed to connect using secure URL.https://servername/exadmin/admin/domainname/public%20folders/ witherror: The remote server returned an error: (503) ServerUnavailable..Failed to connect using unsecure URL.http://servername/exadmin/admin/domainname/public%20folders/ witherror: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.."Public Folder database mounted, users working allright. In the outlook clients i recieved theSecurity Alertof certificate:"The certificate security name is not valid or doesnt mathc with the name of the site."How can i check the owa certificates???...i think that when I create the ones....there was a problem. We reinstall all the IIS services, and the OWA cliente to repair it, but i think its the server certificate. How can I re-create it?. I have installed Certificated Services in the exchange 2007....thanks a lot....

Can you please create a new thread? This looks so long now and that might be easier for other community members to get detail efficiently and helps while searching with proper keywords... :) Besides, run ExBPA and try to correct the errors coming in it by referring the links available for solution in ExBPA result...Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
