Error sending mail to deleted contact
Hi,
I have a problem when I send message to some users.
I delete a mail enabled contact and add the SMTP address that this contact had to a mailbox as a secondary address. Now when other users respond to a mail where the old contact appears, a NDR is generated. I don't know why it happens so SMTP address exists
in mailbox.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Raul

Hi,
You have added a secondary address to existing mailbox, what happens when you try to resolve the address(i.e. send from OWA), since i don't think that it will work this way & also post the NDR that you are getting.

Hi,
If I try to resolve the address from OWA it resolves fine. The address is changed by contact primary smtp address. Also, I a don't resolve the address and send the email to the secondary address the mail is delivered ok.
I think most relevant information of NDR is this:

It seems that the mail is sent to the deleted contact and not to the smtp address.

Hi,
This NDR is coming when when send from OWA or from outlook account, since if it from outlook account then it might be the same that user is sending to address in there cached mode & address is not getting resolved properly, do let me know if I understood
something wrong.Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging

The key part of the problem is your statement:
"Now when other users respond to a mail where the old contact appears, a NDR is generated"
What is happening is that the old contact's legacyexchangedn is what is used and not the SMTP address and so that response is going to that instead. Since it's no longer around, the reply bounces.
To fix this for all replies, you could add the old legacyexchangedn value as a x500 proxy address to the new mailbox. You can do this with adsiedit.msc for the new account.
in the form: /o=ORGANIZATION_OU/ou=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP 28FYDIBOHF23SPDLT/cn=RECIPIENTS/cn=<alias
of original contact that you deleted)

The problem is solved after add the X500 address to the mailbox.
Thank you so much!
