Ok so I'm trying to update a 2013 Exchange Server SP1 (15.0 Build 847.32) to CU 7.

setup /PrepSchema  runs just fine. 

Then I run setup /PrepAD and prerequisite Analysis completes no problems. But errors out on Organization Preparation. Here is error from cmd window:

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I can also post the exchangesetup.log too.

Based on my experience, the issue may occur if the Microsoft Exchange security groups container is not present under root container(default location).

Please check in Active directory Users and computers, and see if the Microsoft Exchange security group and other Exchange related group is present in their default OU.

when exchange was first installed is it a kind of AD Split permission installation ? seems like your setup is with AD Split permissions enabled.

That was it! Moved the groups back to root and bingo good to go! :-)
