Errors trying to install Exchange 2013 CU7

Hello,

We have Exchange 2013 CU5 and are looking to install CU7. I have downloaded and extracted the set-up files, however when try to run the update I reveive a number of concerning errors regarding Active Directory.

I am aware that the update will require Schema updates, however I thought the GUI installed handled these for me.

Exchange is deployed at a AD site that is not in the same site as the Schema Master. Could this be the issue? Do I have to update the schema manually? The only other thing to say is that we do still have an Exchange 2010 SP3 server in the organisation, however everything (including public folders) have been migrated across to 2013 and is just awaiting decommissioning and un-installing.

Errors are below

Hi

I prefer running those 2 commands from an elevated prompt first before starting my installations. It doesnt matter if the schema master is in the same site.

Hi,

Based on the description of these errors, please make sure your account has enough permissions to install Exchange.

And sole make sure you have prepared the schema and Active Directory for Exchange 2013. Remember that the two commands executed above suffice in a single domain. If there are multiple domains, we would have to prepare them as well with the setup /PrepareDomain or setup /pd command.

Prepare Active Directory and domains

Best Regards.

Thank you.

I am now only receiving the following error, does anyone now how to clear this please?

Error:
Setup can't continue with the upgrade because the perfmon (3720) has open files. Close the process and then restart Setup

I have found the answer.

I download Process Explorer and found that the perfmon process was being used by our server health monitoring agent service. Needed to disable this service before continuing

The answer proposed here does not make sense to me.

I had the exact same issue, and my resolution was something completely different.

Situation: 1 Dag 4 Nodes, two sites (each site has two nodes) 4 databases.

The exchange 2013 CU6 servers in the primary site (in NL) passed the prerequisites check / Readyness check without issue. The primary site however has the Schema Master in it.

The two Exchange servers in the secondary site (in the UK) complained as described above.

The issue turned out to be that the servers in the secondary site were not able to access the Schema Master (even though routing works just fine and all servers can 'see' each other) and thus spewed these (not much related it seems) errors.

The resolution is quite simple; update the schema/AD using:

.\Setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

From the CU7 update files (the .\ is there as I prefer powershell CLI). This will extend the scema, now wait for AD to replicate it to the other sites and presto. You can check if the Schema update went OK:

Hope this helps any other people ending up here.
