I am working with a series of vendors by individual Personnel.  I would like to look at a range of cells, check the entries in the range for known personnel names, and then populate the adjacent cell with the vendor name

     A                      B

1  Name             Vendor

2  Fred

3  Harry

4  Rob

5  Sally          

Need to evaluate range 2:5 for Names Harry, Sally who are ABC and have vendor ABC placed in the B3 and B5

Formulas preferred...better grasp of formula then VBA.

Excel 2010

Master list is flat text file (.txt) that can be embedded in the workbook as a sheet.

Match is done once.  Data once evaluated, the revised entries can be then cut and pasted for replication.  Any data changes should be small enough to be a manual/hand entry into the sheet/workbook.

No, I am not familiar with vlookup.

From your response it appears that the built-in Excel function vLookup can be used to populate your table.
You will have to add the master list to the workbook.
Example:   =VLOOKUP("Sally", MasterList!A2:B166, 2, FALSE)

The built-in Excel help file in xl2010 has a pretty good example on how to use it.
