Event ID 1182 - Exchange is NOT beta software
Greetings,This morning at 8:27AM, my computer started, every hour on the hour exactly, to shut down the Information Store. It would continue to work when I restarted the service but it always came with the following:Event Type:ErrorEvent Source:MSExchangeISEvent Category:General Event ID:1182Date:7/14/2009Time:10:27:16 AMUser:N/AComputer:MAIL1Description:Thank you for your participation in the Microsoft Exchange Server beta program. Your license to use this beta version of the Microsoft Exchange Server software has expired. Contact Microsoft Corporation. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.I would like to point out that I did NOT install beta software on this server. I have used the same disk that we always use from our Microsoft Licensing agreement, we have purchased the enterprise license without fail every year. can anyone help me with this?

Is this Exchange 2007? Have you set the license key? Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Please take full backup of your exchange Database and all other exchange configurations. Looks like your Exchange server was running in Evaluation mode and now it is time to install full version of Exchange on top of the existing. See below Article http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Exchange&ProdVer=6.5.6940.0&EvtID=1182&EvtSrc=MSExchangeIS&LCID=1033 Once you have reinstalled the Exchange Full version follow any one of below method to enter license keys there are 2 methods to enter the license keys Method 1 Open the Exchange Management Console. In the console tree, expand Server Configuration . In the result pane, select the server that you want to license. In the action pane, under the server name, click Enter Product Key . The Enter Product Key wizard appears. On the Enter Product Key page, type the product key for the Exchange server, and then click Enter . Method 2 Set-ExchangeServer -Identity ExServer01 -ProductKey aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa If the server being licensed has the Mailbox role installed, restart the Information Store to apply the change by performing the following steps: On a stand-alone server, open a Command Prompt window and run the following commands: net stop msexchangeis net start msexchangeis Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

My apologies, I'm working with Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition not 2007. It seems I was running an evaluation server. So I downloaded a full version off the licensing site using our volume licenses, the version downloaded was Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 (for Std and Ent). I reinstalled it to update from evaluation to full version. The Exchange Server Setup Progress.log states now:[08:09:35] This is a(n) unknown version of Microsoft Exchange Server -- ID:62232 --[08:09:35] This is not an evaluation copy of Microsoft Exchange Server; it will not expire -- ID:62234 --But my IS service still stops every hour on the hour. Is there one final step I need to do that I don't know about to transfer over from an evaluation copy to a full versoin of the server? I'm updating Enterprise version with Enterprise version and SP2 was already installed on the trial version. Thanks for the help.

Are you getting any kind of event id? in app log? what about your database drive? do yu have sufficient space? Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Yes, please post the entire application log(s) so that we may better assist. Another thing to consider is that Exchange 2003 Std sp1 and earlier dismount the databases at 16GB. sp2 does it at 18GB unless you adjust the registry for up to 75GB. I'm cannot remember if it simply dismounts the databases or stops the whole service. I'm thinking the former, but i figured it was worth mentioning. I did give full details, the orginal post has the Event ID associated with the event with no further errors. The database drive is a TB drive with 900 GB of space left. As I said in my second post, the version is Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition sp2. The database is never dismounted whn the IS service goes offline. It goes offline every hour exactly as when the evaluation server expires despite having updated it.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I saw those details above and I thought there was a different condition after you installed the fully licensed software. You say the database is never dismounted when the IS service goes offline. I'm not sure I understand that, as databases cannot be mounted when the IS service isnt running. Was the trial edition also Enterprise?I see this post here and am wondering if its of any use to you:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/cfc19097-5c5b-4e2e-babe-59a3eac30583 Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

I also see these comments from this post: turned out we had an Exchange Enterprise evaluation version installed. This can be determined by looking at:HKLM-Software-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion-Uninstallan entry beginning with 2B8E indicates an Enterprise Evaluation 120 daysan entry beginning with 9161 indicates an Standard Full Packaged ProductIf you need to know how long remaining you have on an evaluation copy you must look in 'Setup Progress.log' and see what date it was installed. I must say though that this was not accurate (don't know why). Can you look at your registry keys and report back? Thanks Mike, that is excellent info. In the registry it DOES have 2B8E, even after I installed a full version as stated by the snippet of the Setup Progress.log i showed above. As to your first response to my last post, you can have your Mailbox Store still mounted even though the IS service is not running. I know this wasn't possible in 5.5 but I have seen it otherwise with 2003. We are running Enterprise. in the Eval version as well as in the full install. We do not want to run standard, nor do we have the license for Standard edition.

I'm keeping my fingers cross but I think the registry keys ....was the key. It seems all our versions are evaluation versions, though we have an enterprise license. I had to get a copy of the software from another department and that did the trick.the 2B8E registry key is no longer there, instead it has been replaced by a F95D key.Going to wait an hour to see if the IS service stops if not, then mystery solved and I very much thank you for the help.

Cool! Glad youre back in business! As to your first response to my last post, you can have your Mailbox Store still mounted even though the IS service is not running. We'll agree to disagree :) Wonder if it was a screen refresh issue or something. Either way, we'll agree to disagree here :) Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator
