Everything Gone?
I came in this morning to find that my SBS 2003 standard server with SP2 has returned to its installed condition. All the settings, users, data files, even installed updates and drivers were in the state they were on first run from Feb 2, 2006. There was no backup of that date and all newer files are missing from the system. Has anyone heard of such a thing, and what could have caused it?

This is impossible. Someone reinstalled your server or switched disks Deli

I have the only key to the room and it was fine saturday night. Please if you are going to give answers such as this don't bother.

I am really serious about this! This is not possible with normal server operations You should check the eventlogs and check for events after 2006 and before this monday, if there aren't any then something happened to the server Deli

I agree this is not normal or I would have some idea what happened. The event log is the only thing that has entries since feb 2006. There are no user files or accounts, no database entries nothing but the event logs show nothing unusual.

Then I would check every entry in the eventlog going forward from saturday when you last checked your server. Trying to find any indication about Errors or Restores Deli

Is your SBS server a VM server?? if not Check security cams, also check if somebody placed a SBS installation cd on the server.

Reinstalling would not have left all the files at Feb 2006 (unless someone other than I knew the origional install date which I doubt) and no backup was done before the drivers were installed and the users active. So I was looking for virul activity and found none, there is no explination I can find.

Greg was this system running on a raid array? If using raid 0 or raid 10 or 50 check your boot.ini file for proper configuration. You may have had a problem with the raid array and you are now booting the original install. Just a thought.

When the owner of the server finally gave me access I found the answer. The origional RAID 0 was broken on Feb 2006 and was not repaired. The primary drive died leaving the secondary drive as the boot drive which was not updated since the RAID was broken (the event logs have never been checked and no notice was taken of the broken RAID. Thanks for your help everyone.
