Excel 2013 and queries

I'm running Office 2013 on a Windows 8-64 machine.  I have a number of saved query files (dqy) that are pointing to a SQL database.  In Excel 2010, I was able to open the files inside of Excel using Data - From Other Sources - From Microsoft Query - click the "Queries" tab and then select my saved file.  When I try this in Excel 2013 I get errors.  When I look at the SQL statement, it appears as though part of the statement is missing.  I can double-click the dqy file in Windows Explorer, launching Excel 2013, and the Query runs fine.  I copied the file to My Data Sources folder and tried initiating the query in Excel 2013 using Data - Existing Connections and then selecting the file.  The query runs fine this way.

I'm just wondering why I can't use the Microsoft Query selection in Excel to open the file any longer.  Has anyone else run into this issue?

Hi,

Based on my tested with Excel 2013, I didn't meet any error when I clicked Data - From Other Sources - From Microsoft Query then clicked the "Queries" tab and then select .dqy file.

So, start Excel 2013 in safe mode to check the issue.

I am having the same problem. I am running Office 2013 on Windows 7, 64 bit. When I try to open a saved query (.dqy) by clicking on Data - From Other Sources - From Microsoft Query, and then clicking the "Query" tab and selecting .dqy file, the SQL statement is trucated if it is longer that 255 characters and trying to run this query generates a syntax error message. If the SQL statement is less that 255 characters, you see the whole statement, and the query runs normally. Does anyone know a solution?

Have you tried to convert the Query File from DQY to QRY Format?

Had some issues here too with this...

Howto:

1. Open your .dqy-File in MSquery from Office <=2010 and copy the SQL-Code
2. Open MSQuery 2013, start with a new query from the same database, 1 table, no matter what.
3. In the new 2013 Query open the SQL code and replace it with the one from your old query
4. Save the result as QRY and not DQY File in the File/save menu

Done.

This QRY file is nw working fine with the MSquery from Office 2013
