Excel ODBC to Oracle 11g Database fails, but ODBC manager connects successfully.

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping I can get a resolution to this issue as it is driving me crazy.

I am using Windows 7 (64) -> Excel 2010 (32) trying to connect to an 11g Oracle database.

I have installed 32 and 6 bit instant client drivers and can connect using the ODBC manager in control panel, but as soon as I try to use Excel to connect using these same drivers I get this error first "ORA-12154:TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.  When I click OK to this message I get another message from Microsoft Query "Couldn't read this file."

Then MS Query comes up blank.

I can connect using SQLPlus and TOAD, just not Excel.

Hi Jag108,

Here are some articles I searched which may give you some help:

ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified  error while creating a linked server to Oracle

Connectivity Issue with Oracle in x64 Environment ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

By the way, since this question is also related to Oracle you could also consider to post this question to OTN Community > General Database Discussions to get more help.
