Excel and selfcert

Hi,

The latest MS updates have been installed this morning ( end February) and I suspect this is the cause of the following issue.

When I sign the VBA project with a selfcert certificate, I get the message "errors were detected while saving C: ...., Microsoft Excel may be able to repair...

When I remove the selfcert signature then the workbook is saved without problems.

Opening a workbook that contains the same certificate can be saved without problems.

I scanned already C: on *.exd files but do not find files created on that day.

Any idea how this can be fixed?

I tried also with a new certificate, same issue. Strange is, I can sign WORD documents without problem.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Hi,

Which Excel version are you using? Did this issue occur after you installed the last updates? We have not received the similar issue on our forum yet. Do you mind telling us the list of your Windows/Office updates? To narrow down the issue, I recommend you remove these updates, and check if this issue still occurs.

On the other hand, based on my test (My Excel 2013 version: 15.0.4693.1000), I still can sign the VBA project with a selfcert certificate. You may try my version.

If you have any update, please feel free let me know.

Hi George,

Thanks for your feedback. I have Excel 14.0.6129.5000 (32 bit). I am thinking more and more that it is not related to a recent update and rolling back is not an option.

Hi

Based on the error message, the issue seems occur with a XLSM file that included some macros/Active X controls. It may be affected by the MS14-082 Microsoft Office Security Updates for December 2014. I recommend you follow this blog to troubleshoot it:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/13/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx

As you said >>I scanned already C: on *.exd files but do not find files created on that day.<< The *.exd may be re-created before the end of February 2015.

Hi George,

I followed the instructions given on the blog, even the additional step for VBA. No success. (In fact, I deleted all .exd files regardless the creation date)

Ran the fix for single user, no success. I do not have the rights to run the admin fix.

Doing some further experiments.

Create a new workbook, add a module and save it as a .xlsm. Close and reopen the workbook, add the signature, in VBE immediate window: thisworkbook.save, close and reopen, the workbook contains the selfcert signature.
