Hi I've put a spreadsheet together - that data has been formatted as a table but I've noticed if the data in the table is updated my charts don't update. Any simple solutions?
You don't tell us the steps that you have taken to create the chart so we don't know whether or not those steps are correct.
1. I have just created Pivot Chart from a table.
If I right click the Pivot Chart then click on:-
Select Data . . .
- the:-
Select Data Source
- window opens.
2. In that:-
Select Data Source
- window in the field called:-
Chart data range:
- it indicates:-
=[testing_fre_jun_14_2013_1.xlsx]Sheet1!PivotTable1
If you have set up a Pivot Chart does it indicate the Pivot Table number (as mine does in the line above)?
3. If you have set up the chart based on the table right click the chart then click on:-
Select Data . . .
- the:-
Select Data Source
- window opens.
You should also see the table itself highlighted with a flashing border. Do you see this flashing border?
Here is my table, in the SM cell for BOYS, the formula is =COUNTIFS($G$2:$G$16,"SM",$F$2:$F$16,"BOY")
When I update info in the cells in the formula, the above table updates, but the corresponding chart doesn't. The correct cell range has been selected for the chart!
It is a simple chart - no PivotTables or PivotCharts were used.

To the best of my knowledge tables are meant for data only (and not calculations except for those that are an integral part of the table itself - ie ones that use table columns to perform a calculation) and this is a possible reason why your chart isn't updating (I have not tested this at the time of this posting).
Move the calculation outside of the table and then I think that you will get the chart to update automatically.
Hi,
I've marked the reply as answer as there has been no update for a couple of days. Please let us know if you would like further assistance.
