Excessive log growth on a database
I have a database who's transaction logs are growing at a rate 10+ times the rate of any other database of equal size and number of users. The actual database size does not seem to be increasing any more then normal. How do I determine the process or user generating all these logs?Tim

Perhaps this will help you http://blogs.msdn.com/b/scottos/archive/2007/07/12/rough-and-tough-guide-to-identifying-patterns-in-ese-transaction-log-files.aspx?PageIndex=2#comments Also there was an issue awhile back with iPhones causing logs to build rapidly so that might be another source to consider but the above will help you figure out where all the logs are coming from and then you can take action from there. here are a few articles regarding the iPhones issue http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2010/06/30/455342.aspx http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/c413598e-7216-4a21-b621-3b6a7c92079aTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Hi Tim, Any updates? Which version of Exchange server do you run? If you are running Exchange 2010, please try this script: Manage Database Log Growth by Using the Troubleshoot-DatabaseSpace.ps1 Script in the Shell http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff477617.aspx And similar post: Rapid Database / Transaction Log Growth - 2003 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/fc20b6b9-422c-4b21-add0-84c73c778c41 Frank Wang TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
