Exch2003 Database on Exch 2007 database
Hi,Here is the Situation:One of my Client have AD, Exchange on the same box. (25 mbx). The Os is 2003 and Exchange is 2003. Now I want to blow of the box and rebuild a new server on 2008 R2 with exchange 2007. I want to use the same Databse (around 70 GB of priv.edb and stmand around 500MB of PF store). here are the steps that I am planning to take so that i can mount the old 2003 database to on the new 2007 database. Now here are the steps that I am going to take:
1. Back up the Database (flat file copy)
2. Pull the user information through Ldifde (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237677) so that we can import it back as it is on the new server.
3. Extract the user mail boxes through Exmerge (http://www.exchangeinbox.com/article.aspx?i=88 )
4. Get the following details so that i can bring in the new Domain and AD with the same name that was there in 2003.
AD Forest Name
AD Domain Name
Server Name
Exchange Organization Name (http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/scriptfanatic/archive/2008/07/14/exchange-organization-name.aspx )
Drive Information of the server (where exchange server in installed).
User Details (DL membership, logon name)
First Storage group Name
Database Name (Mailbox and PF) and the PathNow am I missing some thing on this or this is enough for mounting the stores with old 2003 DB on new 2007 DB or this is over killing of the required information??Thanks in advance.Raj

2008 R2 is not supported with Exchange 2007. It will be at some point in the future:http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/11/04/453026.aspxThe drive information is not really important since you are using exmerge and building a new server. There is only one DC? The entire forest is that oneserver?

I would put up another DC and move all the roles over.Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Then I guess your steps would be be adequate. I've never done something like that. It sounds like you are simulating a DR exercise almost. Do you have documents for that?Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Dont forget the clients will need to create new Outlook Profiles. Mobile Devices as well.Otherwise, if you canrecreate all the settings, it should work.
