Exch2k3 (SP2) Clust. and IBM TSM Backup
I have a clustered environment of 4 servers named 31W, 32W, 33W, and 34W. I have a maintenance server (01W) that holds my RSG. All five of these servers are in the same admin group. I need to restore one mailbox from Storage Group 4 (SG4), Information Store 2 (IS2) on 31W to my RSG on 01W. We have tried this three times and it fails. The IBM TSM folks are telling me the RSG has to be on 31W and the active IS has to be dismounted. Microsoft says the RSG has to be in the same admin group, which it is, and the active IS does not need to be dismounted (a user deleted some folders...I don't want to disrupt a bunch of clients in order to restore her folders to her). 31W has production mailboxes on it, which I do not want tampered with. Since this is a cluster, TSM is telling me I have to use this command:tdpexcc restore 31WSG4 full /buff=8 /buffersi=4096 /excserv=31W /fromexcserv=31W /obj=20081202001040 /partial=31WSG4IS2 /tsmoptf=v:\adsm\agentexc\dsm.opt /mountda=yes /recov=applyrest /templogrestorepath=e: The error I get is "ACN5843I No backups found for a Storage Group <31WSG4> that match the specifications entered."When I did the query:tdpexcc query tsm 31WSG4 /all /fromexcserv=31WI get this:IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail:Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange ServerVersion 5, Release 5, Level 0.01(C) Copyright IBM Corporation 1998, 2008. I know if I call MS again they will say it is TSM and I already called TSM and they said to dismount the store and add RSG on 31W...I don't get why I have to dismount the store if it is to go to the RSG.Thanks,Phil P.S. I apologize in advance if this is not the correct forum for this.

Sorry, i am not aware of TSM, but it's right as what Microsoft said,"the RSG has to be in the same AG, which it is, and the active IS does not need to be dismounted"; Maybe TSM need special sets, pls query with IBM; now, i provide some materials for the familar issue, hope it helps; (1) does the deleted itemexceed dumpster time? (default the dumpster time of ex2k3 is 7 Days, and ex2k7 is 14D) if it doesn't, plese read thelink: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886205/en-us; (2) if it does, please try to do as the following steps (i assume your exchange server version is ex2k3, if it's error, pls let me know) 1.create RSG, and add database to RSG; 2.restore backup file to RSG before pls make sure your backup file is available with the current database; 3.merger mailbox to source mailbox which is running in production environment; about RSG knowledge: exchange 2k3 document RSG overview in exchage 2k3 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998782(EXCHG.65).asp recovering deleted items or purged mailboxs by using RSG in exchang 2k3 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998109(EXCHG.65).aspx exchange 2k7 document: RSG overview in exchange 2k7 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997260.aspx how to recovery a mailbox by using RSG in exchange 2k7 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997694.aspx Hope it helps; if anyhing unclear, pls free time to tell me; or mail to jakey0628@126.com; -jack
