Exchange 07 Hyper V Design
Hi,Can someone please help me with my Exchange 07 Hyper Vdesign. I can't find any MS documents that states my design is supported however I can't find anywhere saying it isn't supported so any guideance will be most appriciated. Hear goes...I have 2 new servers with plenty of resources which I have installed Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper V role on both.I want to install 3 virtual servers on each server as follows.. 1. Mailbox Role 2. Client Access Role and 3 Hub Transport RoleTheVirtual Mailbox roleIwant to clusterSCC style (with the other virtualMailbox role on the 2nd server)and the Client Access and Hub Transport will co exist in some sort of load balencing / co existing setup.I have an ISCSI SAN to store the Mailbox databasesand the virtual machine OS's will be stored in VHD's onthe local server disks.Has anyone else attempted this kind of setup or know if I'm likely to run into any brick walls. Many Thanks in advance.

There are in fact a few places this is discussed.Start here: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/10/28/452979.aspx

so, for SCC you need Shared Disk, you should be able to acomplish this via ISCSI SAN.The next thing I would do is deploy a Hub/CAS Windows server on both HyperV Hosts. This will provide redundancy of that role on each host. Finally a mailbox serve ron each Hyper V host to setup the SCC.Not sure what else you need to know but it is possible. :)Exchange 2010 is fully supported on Hyper-V execpt for the UM role. But I have heard people do deploy it on VM. You also have to consider how much memory you have on your Hyper V servers. How many users in the environment? You'll probably need about 32GB or RAM on one box if you have a average size org. SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS: Exchange 2010, Exchange 2007, MOSS 2007, OCS 2007 -- http://www.scottfeltmann.com

Per my knowledge, the design is fine Resources: Microsoft Virtualization: Best Choice for Exchange Server Should You Virtualize Your Exchange 2007 SP1 Environment?James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
