Exchange 2003: Spam contents not being permanently deleted?
Exchange Experience Level: Self-taught- probably very dangerous :)
I am managing an Exchange 2003 server in a small organization and as the admin I had set recipient policies for all users to default deletions at 30 days/ 1024kb for "deleted", "junk", and "spam" folders. Over the weekend I noticed next to the
spam folder the value of a little over 4000 emails in the spam folder. Not a problem and I have been used to this number as the spam acumulates until the policy takes effect. However, when I click on the spam folder, there is a 10 second
delay, and I noticed that the number in the bottom left of the Outlook window displayed "357230 items". Does this mean I have this large number of emails in my spam folder or is the displayed value next to the spam folder correct?
Just to be sure I didn't have that large chunk of emails in the spam folder, I went back into Recipient policies and changed the "day value to ""0" and the size value to "0" and restarted the outlook client but the values did not change.
Two questions: Do I have a problem? If so, what do I need to do to get rid of all of this spam?
Thanks.

Hi,
What's the program you used to filter the SPAM mails? The delay could be caused by the your anti spam program.
The number displayed in the button left of the outlook means you have total 357230 unread items in all the mailbox folders.

Thanks Gen:
I am usinfg Cloudmark for Exchange plus I have a Cloudmark desktop version on my workstation.
Thanks for info on the item count. I was getting worried :). It seems that Cloudmark is doing its job and the recipient policies are doing theirs.
Thank you again for your response.
