Exchange 2003 - Outlook slowness
Hello,I know that when outlook is getting very slow, there are always loads of reasons...
I have started very lately working on Exchange 2003 and Iwould like to know what are the best questions to ask to the end user to gather usefull informationand what action should be taken ? or what should be verified on my side as Exchange administrator ??

hi,according to me before asking to end users you must check your system resources on your server that runs exchange server.there are 4 subsystems RAM,CPU,Ethernet Adapter and disk.please monitor these subsystems for a few days. and if there is any problem you will see your server' performance.regards,Mumin CICEK | Exchange - MVP | www.cozumpark.com | www.mumincicek.com

Additionally, check the size of mailbox and number of messages in a folder inside mailbox. Check below guidance...

Hi,
First I think we need to know what are the users doing when the performance become very poor, replying message, downloading OAB, retrieving email, or opening mail(public) folder.
Then we can check event log and analyze the error event.
General troubleshoot steps you can refer to the article below, though it is for Outlook 2007,I think we also can check these steps for Outlook 2003.

Check the IP settings of your client too. For example check the IPs of DNS, Gateway and Exchange server are resolving ok. If one of the settings is wrong it can slow response.Andrew Sword, MVP
