Exchange 2003 - email restriction / forward to
I can't seem to figure out how to setup Exchange 2003 so that when User A emails (to, cc, or bcc) User B the email will go to User C. Same situation if User B emails User A, the email will go to User C. I have tried using the following settings in Exchange 2003."Delivery Restrictions" > "From everyone except:" (Added: User A to User B and User B to User A, so they can't email each other)"Delivery Options" > "Forward to:" (Added User C, but now all email that going to User A and B will be forwarded to User C. What can I do so only when User A emails User B, then the email gets forwarded, and vice versa?) This is a strange setup, any help is much appreciation. Thank you.

Hello,This is not possible at Exchange server level, you need to setup outlook server-side rule in both mailboxes with condition = from user and action = forward it to user-c and permanently delete the mail. If you are admin and have full mailbox permission on both mailboxes then create a new outlook profile, open mailboxes and set server-side rule.Amit Tank || MVP - Exchange || MCITP - Exchange 2007 || http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Issue description: How to redirect mail between user A and user B to user C Yes, I agreed with Amit, theres no feature which can accomplish this function in the exchange 2003 natively Heres a workaround I tested in my lab [Exchange 2003 SP2 + Outlook 2003 SP2]: As you can block the communication between two users by using From everyone except option, there must generate Undeliverable message which contain original message if they send mails to each other again. If so, we can forward this Undeliverable message for checking a. First, block the mail traffic between two person by using From everyone except b. Now, go to Delivery Options of the Properties of user A, set a mail-enabled public folder as the forward mailbox, and check the Deliver messages to both forwarding address and mailbox Notes: In this way, all mails being sent to user A will also copy to new created public folder c. We need to set two rules on this public folder Notes: We can use the Folder Assistant button in the Properties of the public folder to add the rules a) First one, redirect all messages which contains Undeliverable word in the subject field to user Cs mailbox b) Second one, a rule deletes all messages which are received by this public folder. Just add a rule which only checks Delete checkbox and move this rule under the first rule d. Login user Cs mailbox via OWA, then you can see the original message which user A sends to user B lies in the attachment. Now you can check the content in it e. Please also do the step b for user B as well

Thanks Amit and James for the quick solution. Amit's solution seems fairly straight forward, but out of curiosity I also tried James' solution. James, for Step c. "We need to set two rules on this public folder". The only way I can get to "Folder Assistant" is through Outlook of the User's mailbox and navigate to the Public Folder. Do I set these rules on User C's mailbox?

Thanks Amit. I got the rules all setup and everything that James suggested. I double check and triple check permissions and settings. For some odd reason, User C is not receiving any of the "Undeliverable". As a matter of fact, I tried not putting any subject and just have all emails forward to User C. Still nothing. :(

Did User As mails has all forwarded to public folder? Lets uncheck the rules on the public folder and see if the mail did forward to public folder Check the mail flow in the Message tracking center, see what happened to those mails Please try to restart Microsoft Exchange Information Store service in an non-productive time to update the settings

James,I greatly appreciate you helping me on this issue. I have restarted "Microsoft Exchange Information Store" and did more testing. I deleted all the rules in the public folder and created a simple rule with subject "Hello World". So now all emails going to User A and B with subject "Hello World" will forward to User C. THAT WORKED! Then I changed the rule so that the subject is "Undeliverable". Did my best again, User A sending to User B, and the undeliverable should go to User C. THAT DID NOT WORK. But if User Z sends an email to User A with the subject "Undeliverable" it will get forwarded to User C.With the rules on the public folder disabled, User A and B's emails gets forwarded to the public folder, except for the "Undeliverable" when User A sends an email to User B. I think this is where my problem resides. The system bounce back or "Undeliverable" are not going to the public folder. I'm not sure why. Do I need to enable a trigger in Exchange?

So, the rules is all working, but Undeliverable messages (NDR) cant make to public folder Please use Message Tracking Center, check Undeliverable messages delivery path Sender: Postmaster@domain.com After spend more time on the lab, I found another workaround. Since these Undeliverable messages are also the NDR, we can based on that to filter the messages we want a. In the ESM->expand to the servers which user A and user B located->Protocols->SMTP->In the right-pane, right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server, select Properties b. In the Messages tab, find which address you set in the Send copy of Non-Delivery Report to c. So we go to the mailbox which links to the address in the step b, those tested Undeliverable messages you sent before must also in there, and then you can check the messages you want , or set a rule in that mailbox to forward to user C if you want

Hello James, As soon as I added "postmaster@mydomain.com" to the "Send copy of Non-Delivery Report to" I received a massive NDR spam/attack! It seems like I just opened another can of worm which I haven't discovered. I tried another method. Rather than having a "Delivery Restrictions" between User A and B, I allowed them to email each other. Then I created two rules in the public folder which will forward the email to User C if rule #1 "From: User A" and "To: User B" and rule #2 "From: User B" and "To: User A" applies. This is the only way I can think of that allow User C to read their email when they send to each other. It would be awesome if there's a way to not use "Delivery Restrictions" and be able to denied User A and B receiving emails to each other.
