Exchange 2003 : Domain problem
Hi, Currently we have an organisation that are moving some users to Google. To do that, we migrate exchange user to google and create external contact in exchange. Our internal domain "mydomain.local" is authoritative and we have an external domain "mydomain.com" that is not authoritative and it is shared by exchange and google. When we migrate user from exchange to Google, user from exchange that send email to Google user receive an NDR because user not exist in the current organisation. To prevent that, we use the option in SMTP server to forward unresolved receipient to google before generating NDR. Here start the problem, the email adresse that is forwarded to Google end with our internal domain "domain.local" and is not routable. So, we changed our authoritative domain to "seconddomain.com" that is routable and update OAB & RUS services but still same issue. When a user send from his Outlook to a user that is no more existing in exchange, the email is forwarded to Google like this one : /o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=test@mydomain.local but there is no more "mydomain.local" in my organisation. How can we change in order to forward email to Google like this : /o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=test@seconddomain.com Do you have an idea ? Thanks in advancen3id

http://www.google.com/search?q=sharing+smtp+address+space&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a is the link to sharing the SMTP address space with another system. Select the link that suits your version of Exchange. They're all doing the same things but obviously the versions of Exchange move various features around. Hi, Thanks for your reply, but I've followed that. My particular problem is that I used a domain "mydomain.local" inside of my organisation and a few days ago I changed it to a routable domain like "mydomain.com". The problem is that exchange, for an unknown user, attach "@mydomain.local" instead of "@mydomain.com"... Is there another place where I can change this ? ADSI Edit ? Because I receive a NDR like : <exchsrv01.mydomain.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 Host not found for domain:mydomain.local - psmtp> and I don't know where this information "mydomain.local" is stored... Thanks in advance,n3id

Is your primary SMTP proxy address in the .local or .com domain? When yourserver contacts another SMTP server it sends a HELO or EHLO command that contains a FQDN. Is the FQDN in the .local or .com domain? For sure, the domain.local isn't going to be found in you external DNS. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, Thaks for your reply, actually our primary SMTP is mydomain.com, and and the FQDN is in mydomain.com. The problem is that an email sent to "/o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=test", the Categorizer will add "mydomain.local" instead of "mydomain.com" and we don't know from where this "mydomain.local" come from because we change it in RUS and rebuilded everything. Thanks again. Best regards,n3id

For Information, when we do a telnet to exchange server and we type "rcpt to : test", smtp server complete the email address automaticaly to test@mydomain.com. So it seems not to be a problem with the SMTP server.. Thanks in advance for your reply. Best regardsn3id

So it seems not to be a problem with the SMTP server.. When your server contacts another SMTP server it sends a HELO or EHLO command. The data portion of that command is the name of your Exchange server unless you've changed the FQDN on the SMTP Virtual Server. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, The default recipient policy has been modified from "mydomain.local" to "mydomain.com" and RUS services have been rebuilt. FQDN of virtual STMP server is exchsrv01.mydomain.com. Is there any other place or cache that hold my old domain (mydomain.local) ? any idea ? Thanks in advance.n3id

How about looking at the outbound SMTP log files for MAIL FROM commands that contain mydomain.local in the senders' address? --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi, Yes, I've seen in outbound SMTP log file that the mail is sent to my smart host with "mydomain.local". I don't know where this domain come from because there is nothing more in recipient policy and all settings in virtual SMTP are checked... This problem appair only when somebody send from Outlook an email to a user that is not existing anymore. Exchange receive for "recipient address" this one : "/o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=test" because of the NK2 file. And exchange, instead of adding "mydomain.com" it add "mydomain.local" ("/o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=test@mydomain.local"). Thanks again,n3id
