Exchange 2003 Database Topology??
Hi.
I am still learning about Exchange thanks to people on here and have one final question!!
I am trying to understand at what points you are unable to restore an Information Store back...
All I have read says "You will be unable to restore a store back if the database topology has changed"...
What exactly does this mean and at what points does this occur? I believe it happens when you do an offline defrag because it alters the signatures in the database files so the log files do not correlate back to it, is that right?
What about when you perform updates etc?
And does this affect a point in time recovery as well as a roll-forward?
Sorry if thats a confusing question!!

The statement probably is referring to the addition or removal of databses within a storage group. Transaction Logs are shared on a per SG basis, not per DB. This is partially why, in Exchange 2007 the recommendation is to have a 1:1 ratio of SGs to DBs.If you're just now learning about Exchange, I'd shift your focus to Exchange 2007, as 2003 is not the current version.
