Exchange 2003 Free/Busy
Hi, I think I am correct in saying that when Outlook is used the Free/Busy data is published directly to a system public folder. This setting by default is to publish 2 months in the future and can be changed in the outlook client. If OWA or another remote access method is used then the Free/Busy data is published via the Exchange System Attendant. Can the 2 month setting be changed here? We have a mailbox which is never logged into, but we need to use for calendar purposes. If we log in with Outlook, change the setting and then never log in again, will the new setting be used, of the system attendan default? Also, other than disk space, are there any overheads involved if changing the default to 6 months? Thanks.

Yes, You can do it. The published Free/Busy information for a mailbox is displayed for the default period of two months after you have configured a longer period in Outlook: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917687Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

Hi Anil, Thanks for the response. Do you still require Outlook to be open though in this case? That KB appears to be a fix to a problem if you are still using Outlook. We have a mailbox which is never accessed through Outlook and existed only to auto accept meeting room requests. Can the Free/Busy 2 month default be changed on the server side for all users? Thanks.
