I'm running E2K3 SP2 with multiple SG's and multiple mailbox stores within the SG's. I'll be moving one of the mailbox store database files to a different volume to get more disk space. While this store is dismounted during the file move, is there a way to scale back the delivery retry interval? When a store is dismounted, I've noticed that Exchange attempts to deliver messages to mailboxes on that store every 5 minutes. I'd like to scale this back because the file move is going to take a long time (database is very large), so I want to be less aggressive with the delivery retries. Can this setting be changed; if so, where is it changed?Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi, Unfortunately, there is no such a setting in Exchange. As the store must be temporarily dismounted, it will make it inaccessible to any user. In order to reduce the influence to minimum, I suggest you perform this action in mid-night. Thanks for the reply!I want to confirm a couple more things -1. I have 20 databases split among 4 storage groups. The database I'm going to move is the first database in the first storage group that was created (SG1/Store1). After moving the files, do I have to edit this registry value - HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem\'Working Directory' - to point to the new location? The current value data is 'C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA.' I've moved other database files in the past without modifying this value, but I'm wondering if I have to since I'll be moving the first database.2. To ask the obvious - since I'm moving the files to another drive, but keeping the database in the same server/admin group/SG/store, I don't have to worry about doing anything with the system attendant mailbox, right?Thanks again for the help.

Hi, For your first question: Please do not delete or rename the Old MDBdata Folder path after you move the Exchange database. If you want to delete the old MDBdata folder, you need to modify the register keys you mentioned. For your second question: If you move the database files that contain the system attendant mailbox from one server that is running Exchange to a different server, this action will disconnect the system attendant mailbox and add it permanently to the mailbox tombs. As you will keep it on the same server, we dont need to worry about that. Thanks again for your reply!Regarding the 'Working Directory' registry value - the database I'll be moving (which is the first database created) will be going from 'M:\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA' to 'L:\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA.' I don't have any Exchange databases on the C: drive, but the 'Working Directory' registry value is currently set to 'C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA.' In this situation, do I still need to modify that value if I want to delete the old database path on the M: drive?I haven't had any issues with the the fact that my 'Working Directory' is pointing to C: while there are no databases there, but the documentation seems to imply that the database must be present in that path. Is this only for a single database Exchange server?I appreciate the help!
