Exchange 2003 Logging
Hi All,
I have inherited an Exchange 2003 environment at my new job. It is in mid migration to Exch 2010.
I ahve a problem with one of the LOG drives filling up. The logs going to this drive are IIS, SMTP Virtual Server and the messaging logs. No DB transaction logs are on this drive.
The messageing logs are set to remove after 7 days, however the other two logs do not have fields to set removal times. How can i set these files to delete after 7 days.
Also my message tracking is not working (i cleared space on the drive by moving some files). are the messaging files used for the message tracking or is it the SMTP Virtual Server logs.
Could me not be able to use message tracking be a permissions error? An error is not shown when i try and use message tracking, it just keeps trying to look for the message.
thank you in advance.

There is nothing built in for IIS logs - which both web and SMTP are. You could turn them off completely.
You will find scripts on the internet that can manage the logs for you, either deleting them or compressing them.
Message tracking has its own logs completely, it doesn't use either IIS (web) or SMTP logs.
Try creating a new directory for Message Tracking, disabling it and then changing the location to the new directory.

See above.

Message tracking logs.

Are new message tracking logs being created in the directory?
Permission on the directory can certainly be a problem. Your account,
which should be an organization admin, must also be in the local
administrators group (or the organization admin group must be a member
of the local administrators group).

Hello,
Here also a script used to delete IIS logs, hope can give you some help:
Delete IIS Log Files Older Than 90 Days
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/ba67b84a-286e-4256-8a6c-d6579dce2045
If these files are message tracking logs, they are used for message tracking not SMTP Virtual Server logs, by default, these logs are saved in different path:
Message tracking logs are saved at this path: C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\ServerName.log
SMTP logs are saved at this path: %systemroot%\system32\logfiles
If you want to change the location of the message tracking logs in Exchange Server 2003, you can refer to this document:
How to change the location of the message tracking logs in Exchange Server 2003

Thanks all for your help. Message Tracking was working, i was just being impatient. It took about 5 minutes for reslts to show up.
I had already created a 50 GB LUN that were used for all three of these logs.
I am am using forfiles to delete any IIS logs older than 7 days. Message tracking logs delete after 7 days (set in the GUI).
Thank you all for your help.
