Exchange 2003 Multiple domain issue
Hi, I have a really strange issue. I have been working with Exchange server's for many years and never have run into this problem before.I have an exchange server that is hosting 4 email domains right nowXtremecoil.comxtremecoil.caxtremecoildrilling.comxtremecoildrilling.caAll work no problem when I send email to them. Recently the company started two new identities and I registered the domain names and pointed A, PTR and MX records all to the same external IP that the other 4 are pointed to. I went into the recipient policy as before and created the 4 new domainsxtremeoilfieldtrucking.comxtremeoilfieldtrucking.cacoil-xdrillingsystems.comcoil-xdrillingsystems.caI can get to the one website that hosts all of them no problem so I know the DNS records are right and I have set the Recipient Policy properly as everyone's email addresses populated with the new email addresses. I can also send email to the new email addresses from internal but when I send from external, I see the messages come in from the firewall to the queue but then I get a rejected email back saying Invalid Domain.Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to correct it?thanks, Andrew

Do you have any exchange connectors that you have to add the new domains to the address space?

Do you have any scanning happening before it reaches the exchange server. AV or content filters could also have filtering rules based on domain.

can you perform a test using telnet to port 25 on the exchange server, and attempt to send a message to one of the users in the new domain.

I was thinking that was a possibility but nothing that I can see from the AV or the firewall. What's weird is I was sending from my BlackBerry well sitting watching the SMTP queue and I saw the email come in and then it got bounced. So it is hitting the Exchange server it just isn't being delivered.Could there be something in the registry that might be blocking it? The intelligent filter that Microsoft throws in there?

All of the IMF settings can be configured from the properties of Message Delivery under global settings.
Did you attempt to perform a telnet test to see if it will allow you to relay a message to a mailbox that is configured with one of the new aliases?

How is it that you are locking your smtp server down? If you are using an address space of * on your inbound connector there must be a restriction before it reaches the exchange server.
Do you have any routing issues, you may want to use winroute to determine.

When I try to telnet either to the new domain or to one of the old domains I keep getting an error in my rcpt to:email address.

Andrew,
SMTP 550 5.7.1 is an unable to relay error message.
Perform the following testto each of your mail relays to determine where you are unable to relay from.
telnet x.x.x.x 25
helo domain.com
mail from:test@test.com
rcpt to:test@xtremeoilfieldtrucking.com
data
test...

The test above should also include the smtp server that is scanning your email before it reaches your exchange server.

The exchange server is the only one in place there is no smtp server before it.
When I try the telnet as soon as I put the rcpt to:administrator@xtremeoilfieldtrucking.com
it comes up saying bad command, however it comes up the same if I do it with xtremecoil.com as well and I know we are recieving email from xtremecoil.com addresses.

Hi,
I got pulled away from this task for a bit but I am back working on it.
I finally got the rcpt to: command to work by adding < > before and after the email address but as soon as I enter it I get the error 550 5.7.1 Domain Invalid
Any other help would be greatly appreciated on this.
