Exchange 2003 OWA default domain problem after switching off form based auth.
Hi Folks I'm running Exchange 2003 SP2 on W2K3 Server R2 Std Edn SP2. Until recentlywe had OWA working fine with the default domain for login set so that users only have to enter username rather than domain\username. Afterswitching to form based authentication for a while we decided to go back to the old way of doing things, but now the default domain doesn't work whatever we try. Wehave resetdefault domain to \ in the system manager for the Exchange and Publicfolders and restarted the web publishing service, butOWAstill requires the domain. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance. Tony

Hi, After reviewing this thread, I understand that after switching to form base authentication(FBA), the default domain function not works well for OWA. Based on the current situation, I suggest you check this article KB903942 to ensure you have configured correctly. How to configure Exchange Server 2003 so that users can log on to OWA without entering a domain name http://support.microsoft.com//kb/903942 BTW, please confirm with me below questions if it still not work. 1. Whether you have users from multiple domains who access Outlook Web Access? If you only have single domain and want to specify the domain when you log on, we can create a custom Logon.asp page that includes the default domain (either visible or hidden). You may refer to the KB820378. http://support.microsoft.com//kb/820378 2. Whether you have ISA or other firewall affect Web request listener that is used for OWA? -Jason

Hi Jason Thanks for the reply. Yes I've seenthe firstkb article (kb903942) before. I have followed the instructions to the letter but it makes no difference. It worked before I switched form based auth on, but since I switchedform based authoff it nolonger works. I can confirm that:- 1) There is only a single domain. 2) I don't use ISA server and no firewalls in place that should affect http or https requests. I may have to create a custom logon page as you suggest but this will be a last resort and it will be annoying to have to use a workroundwhen it all used to work correctly. Tony

Have you peroformed IISreset /noforce to restart IIS for a check. If the issue still persists, I suggest you submit a case to customer service. -Jason

Yes I've done this but still no change. Is it worth me recreating the OWA access folders to set them back to their default state?
