Exchange 2003 PRIV1.EDB extremely large
I am having an issue with a Small Business Server 2003 running Exchange 2003 SP2. The priv1.edb has grown incredibly large. 125GB's in size currently. The total of all mailboxes comes to about 45GB's. The store was going down until we had people archive some emails. Not sure why that helped becuase the database is still way over the 75GB limit. Something else that may be pertinent. The Transactional log files seem to be overwriting themselves. There is only E00.log and E00tmp.log, both with todays date. Very strange. Any help would be appreciated.

unfortunetely, there is not enough free space on the hard drive to run the offline defrag. And I cannot take down the server until next weekend to clone to a new hard drive. So it will be next weekend before I get a chance to try. I will let you know after it is done.

Hi CRWAR, Before running offline defrag make sure that online maintenance cleaned up the space and you have enough white space to reduce. White space shows in 1221 is the approx amount of space you can reduce with offline defrag. By the way, you can also use the /t switch to set the name for the temp database and for a different location. Well. I ran the offline defrag over the weekend. It seems that it has completed. But now the Mailbox Store will not mount. Says An internal processing error has occured. Any suggestions?

Ran ESEUTIL /P on the database. Have gotten the Store to now mount. People seem to connect to their Mailboxes. But those that did not have Cache Exchange Mode enabled in Outlook can not see any email from before the Store went down for repairs. And a lot of strange problems with Calander reminders. Now going to try running ISINTEG -FIX. Hope that helps.

Well. It would seem that the database was corrupt beyond repair. Or at least for ESEUTIL to repair. After running all repairs, the database would mount, but much information was missing from the mailboxes. So we had to create a new database, and restore from backups we made. I believe the advise given here was sound. We have had success in the past with these utilities. But it would seem that in this case, the damage was too great. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
