Exchange 2003 Remote Server Administration
We have 4 Exchange 2003 serversin our Administrative Group. I am not sure when it happened, but we have lost the ability to administrate remote servers. This includes viewing the mail queues on the remote servers and migrating mailboxes. I do not know exactly when it started as those features are not used regularly, so it could have been a MS patch, Anti-Virus software update or the implementaton of Cisco Firewalls. I am able to ping the remote Exchange servers by name and IP as well as net view the resources. Here's is the error message I get in the ESM:Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the SMTP Virtual Server (error code = 0x800706BA). Check the event log and verify that the required services are running. Thanks for any assistance!

This is most likely due to your implementation of new firewalls. The PING command uses ICMP, which your firewall and/or routerare obviously allowing. However, managing your Exchange servers remotely using ESM will require access via RPC and/or NetBIOS ports which must also be allowed. RjZ

Further explaination of your Firewall implementation and Exchange topology would be helpful if you can provide it.MVP Exchange Server

Sound like some sort of network issue such as Firewalls. I would find out what has changed, this will provide a clue. For example ask the network people if they have made any change. Andrew Sword, MVP
