Exchange 2003 SMTP connector - what is the best way to stop it tempereraly
Hello ! I have Exchnage 2003 server with custom SMTP connector that sends messages to firewall . We are planning some firewall maintanance this weekend and I want to stop smtp connector , so messages will not pile up on the firewall . What is the best way of doing this ? if I stop default SMTP , will it stop SMTP flow from custom made connector ? Will messages be waiting on Exchnage server Q ? Thanks in advance !!!

You can freeze all queues from what I remember in queue viewer. Otherwise yes, stopping the virtual server will stop the outbound messages from flowing. It will also stop any internal devices from sending to Exchange. from what I remember they msgs should be piled up in the queue from there. I would try the freeze all queues first, as I remember it would be the best method for what you are trying to do. test it by sending an email outside just to verify when you do it though.Chris Morgan

Yes, either freeze the queue or choose the Disable Outbound Mail option to freeze all messages from leaving the server.
